چکیده

Non-specific tendovaginitis is a common cause of pain and disability, especially in relation to the wrist and ankle and to the proximal parts of the flexor sheaths of the fingers. Many papers have been written describing the condition in general and the features when particular tendon sheaths are involved, but few accounts have concerned the tendon of the tibialis posterior. Lapidus and Seidenstein (1950) referred to the first time this condition was described by Kulowski in 1936 and reported three patients with effusion into the tendon sheath. Lipscomb (1950) stated that this sheath was involved in 16 per cent of a series of patients he reviewed. Short accounts are given in the text-books of Campbell (1956) and DuVries (1959). There are reports of the condition being associated with reduplication of the tendon (Ghormley and Spear 1953) and with partial rupture (Key 1953). Fowler (1955) mentioned notable enlargement of the lower part of the tendon, and the fact that some of his histological sections showed deposits of haemosiderin in the synovium raised the possibility that the condition could be due to recurrent haemorrhage into the sheath. Burman (1953) found calcaneonavicular synostosis in one patient and fracture of the sustentaculum tali in another.

Investigation of the Persistence and Effects of Core Stability Exercises on Disability and Dynamic Balance in Women with Non-Specific Chronic Low Back Pain

Background and Objective: Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders. Exercise therapy is one of the most common treatments for low back pain. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of 6-week core stability exercises on disability and dynamic balance in women with non-specific chronic low back pain. Materials and Methods: This controlled clinical tri...

Ultrasonographic Evaluation of Botulinum Toxin Injection Site for the Medial Approach to Tibialis Posterior Muscle in Chronic Stroke Patients with Spastic Equinovarus Foot: An Observational Study

The tibialis posterior muscle is a frequent target for injection of botulinum toxin during the management of spastic equinovarus foot in adults with post-stroke spasticity. Although it is deep-seated, the needle insertion into the tibialis posterior muscle is usually performed using anatomical landmarks and safety information obtained from healthy subjects and cadavers. Our aim was to evaluate ...

Test-Retest Reliability of Dynamic Postural Stability Measures in Healthy and Chronic Non-specific Low Back Pain Groups

Objective: The primary aim of the present study was to study the reliability of postural stability measures during whole body dynamic conditions, so they can be used in postural stability evaluations, investigations of injury mechanisms and assessments of treatment efficacy. Materials & Methods: Twelve healthy volunteers and 12 low back pain patients performed repeated trunk bending motions ...

New method for fixation point of tibialis posterior tendon transfer

Background: The transfer of the tibialis posterior tendon to the dorsum of foot can restore the function of the paralyzed dorsiflexor muscles of the foot and ankle. In order to reduce the wound complication in the insertion site of tendon to bone by a plantar knop we used a new method of fixation by an absorbable screw inserted dorsally. Methods: we performed this operation on 15 patients in...

Tibialis posterior in health and disease: a review of structure and function with specific reference to electromyographic studies

Tibialis posterior has a vital role during gait as the primary dynamic stabiliser of the medial longitudinal arch; however, the muscle and tendon are prone to dysfunction with several conditions. We present an overview of tibialis posterior muscle and tendon anatomy with images from cadaveric work on fresh frozen limbs and a review of current evidence that define normal and abnormal tibialis po...
